Reframe your Story.
There is a pervasive addiction to misery, unrest and dissatisfaction. There are many among us who are admittedly unhappy in their lives; yet, they refuse to take the action necessary to facilitate a shift. The explanations vary. Most are quite logical on the surface, but ultimately lack the evidence and conviction to justify a life sustained by misery. At some point, we all must ask ourselves whether we are defending our limitations or advocating for our possibilities.
If we wish to transform our lives, we must begin by taking full responsibility for our contributions to its creation. There is no room for victimization. When we find ourselves tempted to gather evidence for why we are victims to circumstances beyond our control, this is a reminder that it is time to reframe the story. How do we take our challenges, difficulties and pain and use them as a means for powerful transformation?
Words have power. They fuel motivation, opportunity and insight; therefore, it benefits us to be mindful of the story that we are telling. Rather than focusing on the past or present experience that we no longer desire, direct it toward the vision of what we hope to create. It is not a denial of the truth (what we resist will persist); it is an affirmation of how we will utilize that truth. “I was feeling unhappy, disconnected and uninspired and I am choosing to believe that….”
Success or sabotage? Before success can be achieved, it must be clearly defined. Begin by listing all of the things in your life that you can no longer tolerate. Then, go back: for each thing on your list, note the opposite (“If I don’t want this, what do I want?”). This will enable the clarity required to begin the process of constructing a clear vision for your new life.
Is this going to be an incredible day? Create the space for possibility by directing your attention to the expectancy of the good that is quickly coming your way.
