Connect with Others.
We continue to experience suffering (and the rest of the world suffers with us) because we continue to invest in a convenient illusion of separation. We live in bubbles that we have constructed and wonder why we have a feeling of disconnection.
There is a great deal of emphasis in our society on developing a unique identity--about being your "self." Naturally, this is important, but the narcissism that may be necessary to achieve those objectives (and that identity) may impede the formation (or sense of) community. This sense of separation is perpetuated by our fear of basic intimacy, from the stranger on the bus to the neighbor across the hall. We have created an "us vs. them" paradigm that makes us hesitant to engage others without a clear and immediate need. The comfort that results is short-lived; the implications of such actions may eventually affect the evolution of this planet.
We are more alike than we are different. At the core, all of us want the same basic things. We want to feel needed, cared for and loved. We want to feel that we are making a contribution in some way to this planet. We want to discover our selves and the meaning of our lives.
Today, as you walk in the world, look at those around you...truly look at them. Remind your self that we are sharing a grand experience and have much to offer one another. Think about what you will offer to others today--friends and strangers alike.
Success or sabotage? Do not live in the comfort of thoughtful procrastination by pretending that you will do something at another time, when it is more convenient. In truth, this is the only moment on which you may rely.
Is this going to be an incredible day? How will you stay connected to make it so?
