Build your Confidence.
If we wish to succeed (particularly as an entrepreneur), we must learn to be confident. If we do not believe in our gifts, talents, and skills, why should someone else? We all know this to be true, intellectually, but putting the belief into practice can be very challenging. Self-doubt is a common obstacle that can hinder our progress toward success. There are several effective methods, however, that can be utilized to manage feelings of self-doubt and build self-confidence.
First, we must identify the source of our self-doubt. What is the foundation of our fear? Fear of failure? Lack of experience? Imposter syndrome? We cannot get beyond what we are unable to acknowledge.
Second, we must be willing to challenge the negative thoughts and commentary in our heads. Are they facts or assumptions? Are they fears and insecurities? What is the evidence that suggests that they are true?
Third, it is vital that we set ourselves up to succeed. If we continue to set realistic and achievable goals, we will gain a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment in our abilities. This will build our self-confidence with the evidence to support our capabilities.
Fourth, we must surround ourselves with positive, encouraging people that believe in us. Success is not created in a vacuum; support is imperative to our bottom line.
Fifth, we must remember that failure is an integral part of success. Often, the best way to learn the most effective approach is through the experience of ineffective choices. So, when we take a misstep, we should treat ourselves with compassion. Rather than using it as another means of self-deprecation and evidence of our inabilities, we can stop and use it as a learning opportunity.
Sixth, the best way to manage feelings of self-doubt is to take action. Take the first step toward achieving that goal. Momentum is one of the most effective ways to build confidence and restore self-esteem.
Finally, take the time to acknowledge and celebrate victories. Since so many of our fears and doubts are grounded in assumptions, evidence of true success is very effective in silencing the negative commentary of the monkey mind.
Success or sabotage? By persistently practicing these steps, we can manage self-doubt and build the self-confidence that we need to succeed.
