Be more Mindful.
We often hear references to the benefits of “mindfulness,” but what does that really mean?
Being mindful is the practice of being conscious and aware of your thoughts, feelings, and actions. It's about bringing a heightened level of awareness to each moment and having a better understanding of yourself and the world around you. Mindfulness is not just about calming moments, but rather an attitude that helps us live more consciously.
Mindfulness allows us to take a step back from our situations to gain clarity on our current reality. It can be difficult in times of high stress or distraction to stay focused so being mindful can help us learn how to be present in every situation. With mindfulness comes greater wisdom which leads to personal growth and development. By practicing mindfulness we can become more reflective and make better decisions when faced with challenging circumstances. Taking a few moments everyday to be mindful will bring increased self-awareness along with inner peace, resulting in improved overall well-being.
The first step is to be aware of your thoughts and feelings. Notice them without judging or attaching any meaning to them; simply observe the mental chatter that goes on inside your head. This will help you become more familiar with the patterns of thinking in your mind and cultivate a sense of self-awareness.
The second step involves practicing mindfulness meditation techniques like focusing on your breath or body sensations for short periods of time each day. Start with just a few minutes, then slowly increase the duration as you get better at it.
The third step is to practice gratitude. Take time each day to note at least 5 things for which you are grateful. Keep that gratitude journal handy. When you are feeling dispondent or disconnected, use your gratitude journal as a remind of all of the good that is in your life.
Success or sabotage? 5-10 minutes of daily mindfulness practice can be instrumental in positively transforming your life.
Is this going to be an incredible life? Reset, refocus and appreciate the gifts that this day has provided.
