Refine your Mission.

Substance is eroded by talk not supported by action. The corrosion of integrity begins when we resign responsibility for our views and allow others to decide our opinions. In many ways we have become a lazy society, allowing others to do our thinking. When asked for our views on important issues, we find ourselves regurgitating the words of others that we have seen on television and radio or read in our trusted newspaper or on the Internet. Rather than doing the work required to examine the nature of our thoughts or the thoughts of others, we march to the beat of the loudest or most popular drum and lose our opportunity for growth and contribution in the process.

If you were asked about your purpose in life (that which you believe to be your reason for being on this planet), what would you say? Would you be able to clearly and succinctly communicate without explaining your self away? More important: would your actions support your beliefs?

Take an opportunity today to give thought, serious thought, to your mission on the planet. Share your belief with a close and trusted friend and ask for support in achieving your goals. Refine your mission with a clear statement (one or two sentences should be sufficient). Invite your friend to do the same. How can you empower one another to value substance over chatter?

Success or sabotage? Successful people are clear about their definition of success. They are clear that their actions must be aligned with their words. They spend less time talking and more time in effective action.

Is this going to be an incredible day? What are the actions that you will take to make it so?
